My favorite show of all time…

w210241 is coming to a beautiful, punishing, excruciating end. The level of acting, directing, writing, and everything else in this series is far above anything else currently on television, in my humble opinion.  Glenn Close, Anthony Anderson, and Forest Whittaker all should have won guest Emmys, and at the very least Walton Goggins, Michael Chiklis, Kenny Johnson, Jay Karnes, and a slew of writers and directors should have won as well.  The arc has been building for the entire run of the show, and it’s about to come to its crushing completion.

Normally this is where I would write “If you’re not watching The Shield, start.”  But since there are only two episodes left of a seven season run, I think jumping in midstream would be unwise.  Instead, run-don’t-walk to your nearest video store and get Season One, Disc One.  Or put it atop your Netflix queue.  Or go Bit Torrent it.  Or, at the very very least, watch the first episode on YouTube.  Here’s the catch — you are required to turn off your phone and your lights, and remove all other distractions, and really watch this first episode, volume full and brain engaged.  If you don’t love it, you’re probably not going to love the show either.  Some shows take awhile to grow on you (Six Feet Under, my second favorite show of all time, was that way for me).  The Shield is not one of them.  After a mere sixty minutes of investment, you’ll either be able to scratch it off your list — or be hooked forever.

  1. AMEN!!!

I still don’t see how people can say The Wire is better then this show. Yes The Wire is good, maybe even great, but The Shield IMHO blows away any past or present drama out there.

  2. Six Feet Under is your second favorite show of all time? I am surprised.
