A great day in film history — all three parts of the Godfather have been meticulously restored and released on Blu-ray.  The results are stunning, if this screen cap comparison is any indication.   And Amazon has the set at 50% off here.  Full NYT story on the restoration here.

If you don’t want to shell out the cash for the set, you can rest assured I’ll be having a viewing party.  Soon.

  1. Great site. Now, if we can only produce good art in the 21st century.

  2. Fantastic. Now Hollywood can get us to pay for it all over again. Love that business model. Produce a quality product once, and sell, sell again. I’ll put this Blu-Ray set on the shelf next to my VHS and DVD box sets.

I’ll treasure it as much as my Dark Side of the Moon LP, cassette, and CD collection.

    Awesome films, though.

  3. In one sense I completely agree with Derek on making us pay again. When I bought the DVD box set I was so happy to have this collection (alongside my VHS set)

But I can’t imagine another drama that I will enjoy more in Blu-Ray then this. To see the subtle looks of Michael as he figures out about his brothers betrayal, Sonny using the Garbage can to whoop some ass, Michael answering Kay one time about his business, and watching Brando in his office at his daughters wedding will be awesome in Blu-Ray
