…is a word that gets tossed around an awful lot (not least by people like Celine Dion and Mariah Carey). But last night I was in the presence of eight people who are American heroes by any definition. The opening film of this year’s Atlanta Film Festival was Stanley Nelson’s magnificent Freedom Riders, based on the Ray Arsenault book of the same name. I’ve learned about the Freedom Riders my whole life, but somehow until last night their incredible courage and their unbelievable devotion to non-violence never really hit home. I feel honored to have been there.
